PULLMAN HOTEL, SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK

Construction of the new $45 million 5 star Pullman Hotel located on Olympic Boulevard in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct had a key component to its success... a precast system solution in its entirety. The hotel included 212 hotel rooms between levels 3-16 which are located above a four level podium. The builder, St Hilliers Contracting, chose to adopt a full load-bearing precast solution in the tower which minimized the construction time. Sasso Precast and Ultrafloor supplied the precast walls and floors, working together to deliver a 6 day floor to floor cycle on the 650m2 footprint.

The Ultrafloor system, which utilised its metal deck infill to allow for greater spans between its beams, and gave more flexibility to allow for services. The system, known as a 200C-1000, uses Ultrafloor’s commercial grade 200mm deep beams spaced at 1200mm. Wet area set downs were accommodated using Ultrafloor’s 150C beams in those areas. To optimise the construction program and minimise costs, alternate internal transverse walls were of light weight construction. The Ultrafloor decks spanning 8.6m between the load-bearing precast walls were temporarily propped offcentre to allow immediate access for following trades. Prefabricated stair elements were installed by Ultrafloor which eliminated the need for any conventional formwork.     Read More >
